Smoking, in America has not been cool since the Clinton clan roll

Smoking, in America has not been cool since the Clinton clan rolled into the White House.

Instead smokers have been pushed to the back burner, cornered, boxed in, ostracized and finally knocked of the stove altogether. President-elect Barack Obama could represent a bastion of light for smokers everywhere, including those like myself often considered hopeless romantics. It’s been a long time since tar and "feather" tobacconists were replaced in Washington by anti-smoking lobbyists, so it’s highly unlikely that the new President will be able sway the tide of anti-smoking sediment that has long washed over the American public.

What the most powerful voice in America today (Barack Obama) could do is make smoking cool again. That’s right I said it, Obama could stand to make smoking cool again, it’s been an eternity since George Burns and quite frankly I for one miss both the Marbourgh Man and Joe Camel. Smokers today are often portrayed as dirty, angry, unintellectual people, if portrayed at all, but an intelligent, mild mannered President with Obama’s style and charisma, who occasionally lights up may just be able to repair some of the irreversible damage done to the relationship between smoking and cool.
